AC vs DC

I may have asked this question before but i just want to make sure before i start spending.

my cars weight when finished with people inside it will be around 1150kg.
people here said a DC 144v system would be best, but when I phoned up for prices at www.avt.uk.com they said an AC system would be best and i think so to.

so can I ask is an AC 96v system able to get me up to 80mph using this kit: http://www.everything-ev.com/basic-ac-co...p-289.html
