Curtis programming advice

Greetings
We have a NEV, an IT car for around town use that would be nice if it went a little faster.
The controller is a Curtis 1244 with an Advanced DC motor.
It judders on acceleration and so far will only do 30 mph.
I do own the programming pendant.
In contrast we have also owned a GEM which I was able to reprogram to do 40 mph.
I hoping to find someone who has experience with reprogramming Curtis controllers and willing to share the knowledge.
