Nissan Charging EV Batteries with Solar Energy
[Image: nissan-leaf-charging.jpg]
TOKYO– Nissan has begun to use solar panels to charge EV batteries at its headquarters. As a test with 4R Energy, the energy from almost 500 solar panels is charging up four Leaf batteries.
Nissan states that a five-year-old used Leaf battery still holds around 80% charge. Old Leaf batteries could be used as household storage batteries as early as 2016. But it might not even be necessary to remove them from the car — Nissan is also close to getting Leafs the ability to discharge power, turning them into mobile emergency power sources.

RE: Nissan Charging EV Batteries with Solar Energy
That would be fantastic if I could use a Leaf as a portable generator. Just leave it parked in the garage powering my house after a hurricane.
