number of engines..

Hi!
I got a couple of newbie questions and I can't find an older thread about it.
Is it possible to use more then one engine:confused:?
For example two smaller ones with the combine power of a bigger one?
If so, can you even use three or four engines?

For example one bigger powering the rear wheels and two smaller powering the front wheels? or 4 medium ones to produce a 4WD electric car?

Is there any pros and cons to using just one engine rather then multiple engines?
